To measure land on your phone, open a satellite map measuring tool such as Telangana LandGrid, choose Measure → Polygon and tap each corner of the plot. The app shows the area in acres-guntas and square yards, the perimeter, and the length of every side. Use Line for the distance between two points and Path for the length of a road or boundary.
Step by step: measure a plot's area
- Find the plot. Open Telangana LandGrid (Android or iPhone), search the village, or tap the location button if you are standing on the land. Zoom in until you can clearly see the field edges.
- Start measuring. Tap Measure, then Polygon.
- Tap the corners. Tap each corner of the land in order, going around the boundary. The shape closes automatically.
- Read the result. The area appears in acres-guntas and square yards (for example 1a 5.6g · 5,523.5 sq yd), along with the perimeter and the length of every side in metres.
- Adjust and save. Drag any point to fine-tune it, use Undo to remove the last point, and Save to keep the measurement for later.
Line, Path and Polygon — which to use
- Line — the straight distance between two points, such as plot frontage.
- Path — total distance along several points, such as a road or an irregular boundary.
- Polygon — the enclosed area of a plot, with its perimeter.
Tips for an accurate measurement
- Zoom in as far as the imagery allows before placing points.
- Place points on the actual corners — fence posts, bund corners, wall ends — not on shadows.
- For an irregular field, add more points along curved edges.
- Turn on Survey No. to compare your measurement with the recorded survey boundary.
Is a phone measurement accurate enough?
A satellite measurement is very good for checking whether a plot is roughly the size a seller claims — a "2-acre" plot that measures 1 acre 22 guntas is worth questioning. It is not a legal survey. For registration, loans or disputes, have the land measured by a licensed or mandal surveyor.
Frequently asked questions
Can I measure land area with my phone for free?
Yes. Telangana LandGrid's measurement tools — Line, Path and Polygon — are free to use on Android and iPhone.
Do I need to walk the boundary with GPS?
No. You tap the corners on the satellite map, so you can measure a plot from anywhere. Walking with GPS is optional and less precise than careful taps on clear imagery.
Which units does the measurement show?
Area is shown in acres-guntas and square yards, and distances in metres.
Can I save and share a measurement?
Yes. Tap Save and give it a name; saved measurements are listed under Saved Measurements in the menu. Use Screenshot to share the view.
